Classics Day

The Classics Department at the College of Charleston invites high school and middle school students from across the state to join us for Classics Day on November 4, 2017. This is a combined event with South Carolina Junior Classical League’s (SCJCL) Fall Forum and will feature presentations by members of the CofC faculty and a visiting professor from USC-Columbia, conversations with members of CofC’s chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, and a live demonstration by Legio VI of Castra Romana of Roman military life. Campus tours and library tours will also available. We are going to have a whole lot of Classics fun!

Registration cost will be $1 per student (teachers/chaperones free), and the deadline is October 20.

See the attachments below for a preliminary schedule, a listing of events/sessions, registration form, and flier.

If you are interested in attending or helping out, or if you have any others questions, please contact Dr. Andrew Alwine (alwineat@cofc.edu).

Parking and Navigating

Those attending Classics Day are eligible for a special rate of $5 / day at the St. Philip’s Street garage. Enter the garage off St. Philip Street and pull a ticket. We will pass out vouchers at Classics Day, which you can redeem at the cashier’s booth when you exit. On Saturdays, there also a number of nearby lots that are free on a first-come, first-served basis. See this Map with several parking spots labeled.

For navigating campus, consult the CofC campus maps. On these maps, the Stern Center is #81, Randolph Hall is #44, and Maybank Hall is #26. (The St. Philip parking garage is also listed: #7 / PG.)
